Description
Based on the River Orwell in Ipswich, Suffolk, our RYA-recognised Junior Training Courses follow the RYA syllabus and offer certificated training from RYA Stages 1–4+.
For juniors at RYA Stage 4 and above with more sailing experience, instructors can teach and sign off a range of endorsement elements. These may include RYA Seamanship, sailing with spinnakers, and the Start Racing syllabus. Please contact the office to discuss suitability and availability.
Both members and non-members are welcome.
Each course is led by an RYA Senior Instructor, with all groups taught by fully qualified RYA Dinghy Instructors.
For children in school Year 6 and below, we ask that a parent or guardian is present on site for the duration of the week, or that a nominated in loco parentis adult is available. For children in Year 7 and above (from September 2025), parents or guardians must remain within easy reach, no more than 20 minutes from the club.
Courses require a minimum of 8 participants to run. If this number is not reached, RHYC and the Course Senior Instructor reserve the right to cancel the course up to two weeks before the start date. In this event, all fees will be fully refunded.
If forecast conditions exceed 20 knots of wind for the duration of the course, the Senior Instructor may decide to postpone the course prior to its start. In the event of cancellation due to weather conditions beyond our control, a credit note for the full course value will be issued.
