Non-Members: Are welcome to book the Winter Talks at a “Non-Member’s” rate.
Guests of Members: CA and RHYC Members attending may book one non-member guest each at the member’s rate, but additional non-member guests should be booked separately at the non-member’s rate. (Husband and wife members attending are thus welcome to book two guests at the member’s rate.)
Larry started sailing in 1966, initially dinghy racing until his knees gave up when he got his first cruiser in 2003. Since then he’s been actively involved in both sailing and training (shore-based cruising instructor and VHF assessor) becoming Principal of the West Mersea Yacht Club Training School in 2023.
He says he was never very satisfied with the RYA Weather syllabus and when invited on a course for instructors he jumped at the chance. The instructor was Simon Rowell, who is now the UK Sailing Team forecaster and has delivered weather routing and advice to the Clipper Race. This was an epiphany for Larry and he likes to pass the knowledge on to other sailors.
He also recently joined the Royal Institute of Navigation to keep track of the rapid developments happening in small craft electronic navigation.
